Crypto is in its video content arc. But will it last? 👀 Here are my thoughts. I know it’s never a single person who’s responsible for something but I DO think it was @lou3ee who pushed the hardest and was the loudest on this. And in doing so, he triggered a movement of storytelling and raising the content bar. Next thing you know, @ekang426 and @ilblackdragon are telling their stories and letting us see inside their home.🏠 @OctantApp and @ethereumfndn are rewarding creators with a whole epoch of grants ($1M!!!) and setting up a second, educating creators on how to monetize. @Haezurath is constantly looking out for talent. Then, there’s @base where @jessepollak pretty much made it their core premise to set up a creator-led economy. I am all for this. Every time I talk to someone about @WalletConnect, they say: “Of course I knew you guys before but now I REALLY know who you are and I love your brand.”💙 In fact, it was @SDolcemaschio’s idea to set up our video department at WalletConnect and it looks like many others are following his lead. Have you noticed @MetaMask’s insane glow up? Remember their tiny orange carpet videos from Cannes? (Shoutout to @ss_starck and Nicole) Video content is emotion-driven documentation.🎥 It serves multiple purposes, including: - entertainment (study @TonyCatoff and @lilybrodi) - discoverability of projects (study @pukerrainbrow and @pukecast) - informed opinions on the news (@gazza_jenks and @rkbaggs from @Cointelegraph) - news but with a personality twist @ElizabethOls0n 🫖 - projects building personalities in saturated fields (study “a dayy in the life” with @payy_link @DeFiDave22, can tell this has the Dutchess touch @ktrivs) - discovering new platforms, protocols, and tools @afrochicksnft and @coinempress - testing and onboarding @emilyxlai - cultural commentary @DAppaDanDev @Jessy_Jeanne - the raw moments of conference life @siannieeee - in-house project updates @0xLinnyx0 I can go on. So the question on my mind is: Is this video content arc going to last? 🤔 I say YES and here’s why: - I’ve seen this happen before, in web2. I used to work in travel media and in just a year, vloggers replaced bloggers. The “trend” never reversed. - More and more projects are hiring full-time, in-house creators. (@KASTcard is looking for someone to travel with them and create video content). - CMOs, Comms Directors, and brand builders are using video to own and shape the narrative. And given our short attention spans, video is just about the only way you can get someone to notice your project. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Is crypto’s video content arc here to stay?
